Why Jason Borrego Writes

I write to be fully alive. It draws me into a magical moment that never seems to end. I see flashes of steel, listen to the roar of mightily dragons, watch the struggle transform my characters into something new, and its not always for the better. The best part is that a  writer never has a dull moment. Reading on the train to work, drawing on the back of a napkin while waiting for lunch, its a thrill that never really seems to end. Some say its like having homework for the rest of your life. However, this homework is fun. Writing gives me a chance to sway the ocean to a new beat. I love magical worlds that bring out the child in us all. Books like the Dark Tower that transcends space and time. The best fantasies contain artistic worlds, powerful magic, and a good versus evil plot. The righteous (A few) stand up against the wicked, (the many) in an epic battle that drives daggers into the readers heart.

Why Jason Borrego Writes…

When I was younger, I fell in love with video games (playable books).  One of my favorite games was Diablo, by Blizzard. In this popular video game a trio of heroes battles through a tainted labyrinth stuffed with hordes of demons. The warrior class in the game needs powerful weapons, armor, a helmet and shield to survive in the brutal hell-hole. Should the warrior adventure down into the dark corridors without any of these, he would surely be crushed by the burning hordes. Even taking away one piece of the protection lessens the chances of success in a gruesome battle. Can a warrior fight without his sword? Can he take a blow to the head without a helmet?  For those of you who played the game, I recommend trying to fight a battle without armor, you won’t last long. What you’ll quickly discover is even a small lonely demon is difficult. Imagine what happens when it returns with its big brothers and sisters. The same is said for words. If one part of the story is removed … then the whole adventure suffers. Writing must become a art, a skill, a habit. I need to tell a story, but I want to show the glint of light gleaming off a heroes breastplate. I write to discover, uncover, learn, think outside the box, keep from going crazy, and to bring dreams to life. I hope you enjoy.
